Nutritionists Encourage Us to Celebrate a World of Flavors that Includes Pork

This past February 2022 during National Nutrition Month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encouraged us to “Celebrate a World of Flavors.” Their recommendations highlighted the basics and included pork.

It makes sense to list pork especially since this protein meat has such global reach and is a mainstay for so many cultures.

In their counsel on a healthy diet, they listed 3 main tips:

  1. Reduce Added Sugars
  2. Curb Sodium
  3. Decrease Saturated Fats

In the “curb sodium” section one bullet point reads, “buy fresh poultry, seafood, lean cuts of red meat and pork rather than processed meat and poultry.” Pork is so naturally flavorful that if you must curb your salt intake because of dietary concerns, you’ll still be able to enjoy the taste of pork.

As the National Pork Board’s pork.org points out, “Pork Connects Us.” Food has a special way of uniting friends and family together around the table.

So celebrate good food with pork as part of your weekly menu mix.
